A Quick Redesign and "Going to the Rodeo"

Note: These two posts were originally posted by me to BASIS Tucson North's Senior Project Blog page, on February 18th, 2018, and February 19th, 2018, respectively. At this point in time, I still hadn't really figured out how to make a good blog post yet. Well, here they are:

This week, I began redesigning the neck to make it easier to cut out of the block of wood that I purchased two weeks ago. Unfortunately, however, the parts that I was waiting on arrived on Thursday, and I have been busy with robotics as well, so I was not able to get the neck cut out this week. I will most likely have it done by Rodeo weekend, but the end of Build Season for Robotics is this Tuesday, so the building is intensifying! After Tuesday, I will have a lot more time to dedicate to the guitar project, so expect more done per update. Somewhere on this page, you can see a recent screenshot of the redesign of the neck to make it easier to cut out on a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Router, as well as to make it less likely to break in the event of dropping the guitar (a major design flaw in Les Paul, acoustic, and hollow-body style guitars). Another thing I am working on is redesigning the headstock. The one I had in the week 1 seemed a little generic to me, and not really my style, so expect a new design soon.

Hello! I know that I said I was going to put more content per update, but this weekend is Rodeo Weekend, so I will most likely be “at the Rodeo,” meaning I will most likely not be able to work on the project. That being said, I still wanted to do an update this week, so here’s the new headstock! I was going for something similar to how the Schecter Diamond Series headstocks look, but with some cool angles like on a Paul Reed Smith (PRS) headstock .

I’m pretty happy with how this design looks, and when playing with the spacing of the tuners, I accidentally created a seven string. Both designs are below, with the seven string in red. I will most likely not be making a seven string for this project, but I will most definitely building one in the future because extended range is cool.
